Electives
Tiwi College Electives – Term 4, 2024
Colours of Country
In this creative elective, students will transform the school grounds by painting vibrant murals on buildings, drawing inspiration from traditional Tiwi art styles. They’ll work with both natural ochre tones and bold, modern colours, guided by James Faraone and Queenie Babui Faraone, to celebrate Tiwi culture and storytelling through art.
Recycled Sound
In the Industrial Arts Shed, students will upcycle old computer components to design and build their own Bluetooth speakers. Through hands-on learning in basic electronics, safe tool usage, and 3D printing, students will create unique speakers from recycled materials with support from Carl Jeffreys, Bronson Mungatopi, and Marie Ullungura.
Design and Dine
In this creative and practical elective, students are combining cooking and textiles. Alongside learning to prepare healthy, delicious meals with Nathan Terry and Cilia Bari, students will also design and create their own tote bags, inspired by the traditional Tiwi carrying basket known as a Tunga. Using fabric painting and screen printing, students will decorate their tote bags with traditional Tiwi designs and themes, blending cultural knowledge with practical textiles skills.
