Tiwi Islands Indigenous Protected Area

Tiwi Elders are worried about the loss of cultural knowledge and so have produced a series of posters about Tiwi animals for schools.

The Elders are members of the Tiwi Islands Indigenous Protected Area (IPA) Committee and have been working for the past two years with Rangers on developing a management plan for looking after Tiwi country and culture. IPA Committee members, Jane Puautjimi, Richard Tungatalum and Karen Tipiloura, and Land Ranger supervisor, Clinton Rioli, presented the colourful and informative posters to Tiwi College students.
