Turning rubbish into art!

Marine debris is a major threat to the health of Top End coastal areas. With the help of Sea Shepherd Australia - Marine Debris Campaign Rangers have been cleaning up Tiwi beaches but instead of burying the rubbish in landfill, they’ve been making art with the Junior Rangers. Tiwi College recently hosted a workshop with the Plastic Collective where students, Rangers and elders were shown how to create artworks from old fishing nets (ghost nets), ropes, thongs and other plastic rubbish. A kit of tools and equipment to process the rubbish and create sculptures, weavings and jewellery was donated to the College. This will allow students and Rangers to keep turning trash into treasure in the future!
